Sony Playstation 3 Repair

So after hearing from my friend that his Playstation 3 up and died on him. YLOD - Yellow Light of Death syndrome I began researching ways to repair his Playstation without spending too much cash. We figured that paying no more than 1/3 the total cost of a brand new one but we were also looking for a facility that could repair 'his' personal Playstation and not just replace it with a new one.

We definitely didn't want to lose his countless hours of time invested into his game saves or lose his launch unit PS3 which has PS2 backwards compatibility and all his PS2 game saves.

After watching a ton of YouTube videos on how to do it yourself as well as looking into repair companies we found one that looks to be very reputable and after talking to a representative sounds like they can do exactly what we need.

- Repair or replace all parts.
- Fix the YLOD
- Replace the Power Supply
- Keep all save data intact.
- Repair his physical unit and not replace it.
- Quick turn around of about a week.

For $109 this includes: Fast turn around time, free shipping and all parts and labor. He's finally decided to send his PS3 in to repair to http://psr1.com. I'll post back once we get the results of the repair.

Final Fantasy XIII Obtained!

Seriously... This is one of _the_ most impressive game's I have ever played. From the opening sequence I was hooked. First impressions are very good and I can say that I will be diving into this game this weekend. I picked it up on the PS3 of course along with the Collectors Edition Game Guide for a total of $95. I had a $55 GameStop gift card from Turtle at Christmas time and my GameStop Edge Card got me an additional 10% off the price of the guide + another 10% off the guide for purchasing it with the game.

I normally don't purchase game guides but this one is hard bound and really cool looking so I couldn't resist. I've been playing through each chapter and then going back to review the guide to see if I missed anything instead of reading the guide first. This helps to keep the experience immerse and fresh for my first play through. I will admit that I had some trouble at the end of Chapter 3 with the Endolon fight so I refereed to the guide.

Highly recommend picking up this game if you've ever played a Final Fantasy title or classic RPG style game, this does not disappoint.

Back to the grind! Look for me on PSN this weekend exploring the Universe of Final Fantasy 13!

New Camera purchased!

So we've got our honeymoon planned for March 29th and my previous Canon ZR950 camcorder was lifted when our office was broken into at work. I added it to the insurance claim so I am going to get a partial kick back from the loss and I've just received my new replacement camera from Amazon today.

I ended up picking up the Canon PowerShot 940 IS. I am pretty impressed with it so far and really like the small form factor and sleek black body. It can shoot at 12.1 megapixel and can also do 720p video. The video looks very sharp but the file sizes are HUGE! I did a test video and the file size was about 250mb for around 2 minutes of HD video. I'll be investing in a larger SDHC card to say the least.

Other than that I've just picked up the God of War Collection and looking forward to playing through the first two games hopefully before the GOWIII release but I seriously doubt that will happen. I am interested to see how this looks since they've remastered the entire game. I don't have anything to compare it to as I never played the ps2 versions but should be interesting.

Other than that I've been really into playing Modern Warfare 2 since its release last November. I've managed to build up my guy to a level 52 prestige and still climbing!

Just posted some test shots of my Starcraft Terran Marine Action figure on my Flickr to test out the Macro setting on my camera. They turned out pretty good I think!

Well that's all I've got for now. If I think of anything interesting I'll try and remember to post it up.

Adios!
